JOHN KEEL NOT AN AUTHORITY ON ANYTHING

A Letter to Charles Bowen, March 11, 1967

Bālāchor John responded to Charles Bowen’s letter with a report on his recent research, particularly the events in Point Pleasant. He also wonders why “UFOS certainly attract a peculiar bunch of misfits.” The postcard from Joseph Stevens that he mentions turned out to be a legitimate business solicitation from a funeral home.

  1. Well, as usual, the backstory is where the good stuff is. Fascinating info. Thanks for posting.

  2. Keel’s fear and possible paranoia come through here. I can’t help wondering if Gray Barker and Jim Moseley had something to do with some of the phone threats, etc. The Cape May family don’t seem like the type who would lie, or perpetrate hoaxes. A real mystery, with that case. I didn’t know Connie Carpenter had more than one kidnapping attempt made on her, though I think the oft-reported MIB connection with these are spurious—though understandable, given the general atmosphere at the time.

  3. CORRECTION: “…MIB connection with these IS spurious…”

  4. Bill — Barker and Moseley certainly played some pranks on Keel. Here’s one: http://www.johnkeel.com/?p=489

And, yes, often odd interactions were filed under MIB; but they were strange times.

  5. What I find interesting is that almost fifty years later we are still no closer to understanding what is going on!
