That’s fascinating. the birds were coincidental to the mothman sightings I think. Turkey buzzards are in no way rare in wva now and i doubt back then. And the average size of one standing would be much bigger than the one foot described. Too bad about the owl…wanton killing. In any case, perhaps the dreams were premonitions. Been thinking this must have all been very hard on the witnesses esp Mrs. Hyre, going thru all this in a previously very quiet town as John described, Thanks!

It’s hard to believe people in rural West Virginia were unfamiliar with vultures and owls. But then, it’s also hard to believe they saw something like Mothman. I guess we’ll never know the full story.
