A Letter to Lynn Catoe, January 5, 1968

http://pratergroup.co.uk/wp-json/oembed/1.0/embed?url=http://pratergroup.co.uk/projects/ John writes Lynn Catoe, again bemused at finding himself in the middle of a spat between her and Ivan Sanderson. He also offers an interesting assessment of Gray Barker, observations on strange voices on shortwave, and his usual exasperation at his fellow ufologists.

Some notes: Irving Stone wrote several biographical novels, including books about Michelangelo, Van Gogh, Freud, and Darwin; Richard Gehman wrote many biographies and magazine pieces about entertainers. Aimé Michel was a ufologist who had predicted “trouble in the U. S. S. R.” Edward Condon and Robert Low headed the University of Colorado UFO Project, which published its findings later that year.

  1. HiDoug this is out of sequence with this post, but i wasn’t sure you’d see it. Been binge reading the site again, during our hiatus. Really enjoying it. The post with mention of Johns early films (nov 2009) motivated me to look up Leo Zales. Dont know why. But I came upon mention of both Leo and John In a book called Brass Button Broadcasters. Military broadcasting during Johns time in Germany. The book describes a trip to Egypt and the spooky broadcast they did in the tomb in the great pyramid. John is credited in the photo caption as writer. So they knew each other in the Army before New York. The group picture unfortunately did not scan well. But Im sure you could find a copy. Do you know about this book? Did John ever mention visiting the great pyramid to do a show? Or Bob Harlan? The book is written by Trent Christman. Im determined to find a copy of West of Washington Square!!! Hope you have been well thru these times. Thanks for this site. Patty

  2. Patty — I haven’t heard of that book! I’ll have to look for it. And yes, John did talk about that show in the pyramid. I’m afraid West of Washington Square is gone, lost in a taxi, according to John. His only published novels were Town Tease, Three Women, Love That Spy, and The Fickle Finger of Fate. But I have posted here bits of some of the ones that he never finished. I’m fine, thanks: reading, writing, and avoiding viruses. Take care!

  3. […] David Clarke and Andy Roberts. John Keel takes us back to internecine ufological squabbles and A Letter to Lynn Catoe, January 5, 1968. A good window into the nutty world of ufology in the late ’60s! […]
