Special Cases – The Long Island File (83): Agar’s Sister

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:51 pm

cheap Lyrica canada The next day, John has a phone conversation with Helen Oglemyer, and indirectly with CloĆ©, who claims to be Agar’s sister. She apparently also disapproves of John’s bawdy Batman spoof, The Fickle Finger of Fate. Jaye Paro (Tim’na) reports “that the MIB were turning people into evil, mindless zombies,” and adds several of her own MIB interactions. Agar predicts (wrongly) that there will be many Mothman sightings in Long Island.

  1. You bet your sweet bippy that Mothman never showed up on Long Island. (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)

  2. On a more serious note, I’d like to point out that this was prior to the movie Night of the Living Dead, which came out in 1968. So at that time, the term ‘zombie,’ from what I understand, had more of a connotation of a mindless entity than necessarily a cannibal or somesuch. That entity was maybe dead but sometimes alive, being hypnotically controlled by some other agent(s) for nefarious purposes.

  4. Thank goodness The Outer Limits was canceled by ABC in 1965 or Jaye would’ve had even more material to draw from.

  5. […] zombies” would become part of John Keel’s memories of the New York State contactees in Special Cases–The Long Island File (83): Agar’s Sister. And Mark O’Connell’s in a sort of quandary over memories, as well. In the process of […]

  6. I apologize if it seems I’m piling on Jaye, but I think this is significant. Granted, at this point in the timeline, she had mentioned hypnosis before in conjunction with the alleged aliens. Still, I find it interesting that she told JAK on Oct. 1 that the MIB were turning people into ‘mindless zombies.’ Consider that three days earlier, on Sept. 28, the TV show Batman ran an episode titled ‘The Wail of The Siren.’
The plot was a variation on the ancient Siren mythology. A woman called The Siren (natch), played by Joan Collins, ‘sang’ a super-high pitched note that she used to place men (and only men, not women) in a trance. Once in this state, the men essentially were ‘mindless zombies’ and Collins’ character could command them to sign over their assets, attempt to commit suicide, etc. I don’t know, but it seems more than coincidental that these new revelations came on the heels of this particular show. Just my .02.

  7. I’d add that it’s possible Jaye was conflating stuff in her own head, whether from dreams or experiences she thought she had, with things she saw on TV. Also keep in mind during 1967 ABC had another show called The Invaders, which posited that aliens had infiltrated the U.S. and were hiding in plain sight, having shapeshifted into human form.

  8. John worked in the entertainment industry during that time right? You would think he would pick up on that possibility.

  9. I feel it my duty to point out that The Fickle Finger of Fate was published before Laugh-In popularized the phrase! It’s an old army term.

  10. Probably at that time, a zombie was mostly thought of as one of the drugged slaves in Haiti. A personal zombie note: the first use of the word was in a book called The Zombie of Great-Peru, published in Guadeloupe in 1697, which I translated a couple of years ago. Back then, it referred to any number of ghosts and nocturnal phantoms.

  11. I think it’s possible Jaye believed some of her stories. I suspect she also could have gotten some ideas from Long John Nebel’s radio show, particularly since her own seemed modeled on it.

  12. John had mostly left TV at this point. The Invaders probably caused some UFO reports, but then, it was also based on them.
