JOHN KEEL NOT AN AUTHORITY ON ANYTHING

Happy Birthday, John Keel!

Naryn John was born on March 25, 1930. I’m sure he’d be glad to know his fans are still reading him 92 years later.

I thought I’d mark the occasion by posting a letter he wrote home a month before his 19th birthday. He had dropped out of high school and gone to NYC to make a career as a writer. As the letter shows, it wasn’t easy!

  1. Thanks for sharing. Ah, the anguish of a young, unemployed writer…

  4. This letter makes you wish you had a time machine, so you could go back in time and accidentally bump into John, and slip him some money.

  6. It just struck me–if JAK wrote this letter home, how did he have it in his files? Maybe he never mailed it? Just wondering.

  7. I don’t know if he did mail it! But if he did, he could have gotten it back later. He also had checks from his mother from those years in his files.
