Up next are two letters from June Larson, a friend of Ivan Sanderson and a member of NICAP, who provided UFO clippings to a few researchers. Here, she asks John if his upcoming UFO book is the one he had been working on with Sanderson. That proposed project, Abominable Space Things, was abandoned; I posted the notes and correspondence about it here. She also suggests that John use the book to dismiss “cultists” like Major Wayne Aho and Dr. Frank Stranges, whose titles she suspects are dubious. In the second letter, she explains that she’s reluctant to pass on “the pictures from Norris” until they’ve been analyzed. I think she’s referring to photos taken by James Johnson Kibel in Melbourne on April 2, 1966, then in the possession of Australian researcher Peter Norris.

  1. Interesting. Was just reading about Valiant Thor, as reported by Stranges. Did AJK have an opinion on Thor? Was there an Apol-Thor connection

  2. I don’t know if Apol and Thor were connected… I do remember that John said Frank Stranges was one of the best speakers on the UFO circuit. He had that preacher’s delivery!

  3. As a graphology wanna be I am struck by the difference in June’s handwriting in the letter and her signature. They are contradictory. The handwriting is forward slant, normally outgoing but overly controlled and weirdly overly decorated with little tiny felons claws at the beginning of virtually every word. Indirect and planned out approach to others Hard to please and ever so slightly but continually passive aggressive. A good well behaved girl. With a grudge on. The signature is backward slant introvert and artistic. And trails off into a dramatic theatrical depression. Printing this one out for the files.

  4. Huh! I don’t know anything about her except these letters. I’ll admit I was struck by her shifting back and forth between “I” and “we,” but have no idea what that might mean.
