Special File – Volume Three (18): A Letter from Appell, November 1967

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:08 pm

Nagarote John bound photocopies of two letters and a questionnaire from Appell at the end of his “Special File.” I posted the original of the first one, from November 24, here. The second one responds to John’s letter of October 2, which John included in his file here. John had, quite naturally, objected to the suggestion that he and Jaye get married and have children, and Appell explains it was all an experiment.

  1. Hi Doug! Hope you’re doing well. This letter from Appell (or . . .?) is interesting. The phrasing and parsing of language renders a sense of disorientation, fragmented like someone with schizo-affective disorder . . . or with fairly competent skills of mimicry. As with a lot of this material, I’m impressed by JK’s keeping his wits–and admitting when he’s close to being at their end. I noted the “slip-up” on the last page, where the writer refers to “Gay” Barker. Was that genuine meanness, I wonder, or simply a spelling error?

  2. Apol is being mischievous. Notice the reference to Gay Barker, rather than Gray Barker!

  3. been comparing this to the Pickwick Inn memo. I have studied graphology somewhat, not an expert, but i think the writing might be from the same person, with an effort to disguise perhaps and writing with the non dominant hand. And I think John wrote both.

  4. […] hijinks. Yet the purpose(s) for either agency seem equally murky. Muddier still is the subject of Special File–Volume Three (18): A Letter from Appell, November 1967. This is the second of two letters to John Keel from the leader of the aliens/androids with whom […]

  5. I’d be very surprised if John were writing Appell’s letters, or sending questionnaires to himself and answering them as Appell!

  6. Apol/Appell hints at a childhood stolen away. Was Ms. Paro an early subject of MKUltra or similar operations? The letters as written are disorienting: odd diagonals, boxes and the pen (or pencil) leaves the surface of the paper to continue elsewhere. Definitely meant to obstruct easy comprehension, so is it genuine or a tell, like “Gay Barker” that JAK was being hoaxed? Or, following the MKUltra, line of thought, is Apol/Appell an alter personality for Ms. Paro — another identity that manifests under certain conditions? Rhetorical questions at this point. Thank you Doug, for sharing these with the world!
