Mothman in “Soldier of Fortune”

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:10 am

Mark Pilkington has alerted me to the fact that the current issue of Soldier of Fortune magazine (Feb. ’14) contains an article entitled “UFO Mystery Solved: “Mothmen” Were Actually Green Berets.”  The writer, Harold Hutchison, claims that special operations forces near Point Pleasant were testing high-altitude, low-opening (HALO) parachuting for use in Vietnam; and that the jumpers used luminous paint to be seen during the tests.  And this, he says, explains the Mothman sightings.  I’m not convinced that every Mothman report can be chalked up to a paratrooper; but it’s a plausible explanation for some, and certainly for some of the UFO reports.  There was a lot going on in Point Pleasant that year…

  1. I’ll have to check out the article, it sounds very interesting. I have long wondered whether the Mothman being could have been soldiers testing some sort of experimental equipment. Descriptions of the creature seem to describe a man in a high-tech “battle suit” of the type the military has tested in various forms for many years (not classified, they are pretty open about attempts to develop a mechanical exo-skeleton). It also sounds like a soldier with some type of jetpack or one-man VTOL(vertical take-off & landing) vehicle. The red eyes and injuries to witnesses’ eyes could be laser gun sights as well.
In a related topic, I have wondered whether the many strange people/MIB showing up in the area might have been intelligence agents from some of the lesser-known (to Americans) communist countries such as Romania, Yugoslavia, or Albania. Those countries had their own equivalents to the KGB, but probably not as well-trained and sophisticated as the Soviets. They might have dressed and spoke oddly and not known common U.S. references.
“The Mothman Prophecies” is an all-time favorite of mine. I just think there may be more “normal” solutions to explaining the various events. It’s interesting.

  2. I have to say, I never saw a soldier that could fly like that. Tell me, what type of vehicle was that you soldiers were using, impressive maneuvers to say the least. And the size of it/them, you must be very small to fit inside of those little ones. H, mmmmmm,,,,,, just saying…..

  3. I originally broke this story in my book “Threads of Faithfulness” and the Youtube video “Mothman Mystery Solved” I contacted Soldier of Fortune magazine and they expanded on it in their shortened version of the story. My family was born and raised in the Point Pleasant area and knew almost all of the people who saw something. My particular interest in the story is explained in the book; but, it was inspired by my father’s Boy Scout trip to the TNT area that had a parachute drop from a flyover of three C-119 “Flying Boxcars” at treetop level
