Keel and Sanderson Try to Write a Book (7)

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:45 am

http://civilwarbummer.com/tennessee-trails-and-tales-or-sevierville-civil-war-heritage/ John wrote Ivan Sanderson again on May 2, 1966.  He was indeed corresponding regularly with the Lorenzens; and he was indeed inundated with material.  The meeting with Fawcett concerned his superhero spoof, The Fickle Finger of Fate (which has, parenthetically, puzzled some Keel fans unaware of his earlier work as a comedy writer).  He doesn’t seem to have corresponded with Isabel Davis, active in the UFO organizations CSI and NICAP.  I wonder how the meeting went…

Around this time, John was putting more work into his projected UFO article for Playboy, and the book with Sanderson sort of fizzled out.  But they did get as far as an outline/pitch, which I’ll bring you next time.

  1. Hi Doug!

As you know, JAK was a great comedy writer. I recall back in 2003, living in Pittsburgh, I found copies of JADOO and FICKLE FINGER OF FATE online. These added an entire new dimension (no pun there) to my appreciation and fascination. Then I got to say hello to the man himself at the 2003 Mothman Fest in Point Pleasant. I have photos of him near the sculpture, and others.

Man, what a book those two would have written….

  2. Bill — John also wrote two novels under his pseudonym Harry Gibbs, Three Women and Town Tease. Both were written for the sleaze market (though nothing explicit), but are most notable for their humor.

  3. Doug:

Yes, thanks to your previous work here I know of those. Having written some pseudonymous stuff (as “Anton Laveau”) myself, I can appreciate it. I wonder if those 2 are out there? I’m gonna look.

    Best,

    Bill Grabowski
