He pastes some clippings into the record, about a Soviet claim of a propaganda campaign mounted by the U.S. and about an earthquake that might delay the Pope’s planned visit to Turkey. He follows with a report on more strangeness, and on odd phone calls received by Jaye Paro, Ivan Sanderson, and others. As he says in his report, he’s having trouble keeping up with all of it.
Never seen the name Louis Ingolia before in John’s books.

He’s not mentioned by name in “Mothman”, but Keel alludes to the letter.
I wonder how many of these phone calls were placed by James Moseley, Gray Barker, and friends?

John’s already dabbled in hoaxing calls, which is what I think he describes here. I think this an aspect of psi investigations.
I think Jaye is a total fraud. I’ve read thru most of this, and cant find any instances where John actually witnessed anything Jaye reported, first hand.
Hoaxing is sometimes an irresistible force in psychic investigations. That’s what been fascinating to read. How it developed and got more intricate. When you have the ‘hoaxing ideation’ start mentioning murder it has taken a turn for the worse. Will be very interesting to see how it crashes.

John did make some hoax calls, mostly to find out where the material resurfaced, which only complicated matters. No, John never saw Paro’s androids. I do think it’s possible that Paro was delusional, rather than a pure hoaxer. The aliens didn’t exist, but the human complications, and John’s thorough reporting, are the real story.

Stripped back to physical facts, in the midst of all this AFOSI style disinformation and rubbish being foisted on him, and there’s no reason not to think it was AFOSI doing it, using Jaye Paro as a cutout or patsy, the physical fact is that John Keel’s phone line was hacked.
This whole situation smacks of a Paul Bennewitz type psyop, earlier and less refined but the same type of thing.
Bennewitz had good military contacts, and so did John Keel. It’s logical to assume AFOSI, DISC and the others would want to promulgate their lies via an influential writer.

I still can’t figure out what Paro was up to. In later years, John suspected that his phone was tapped, not because he was investigating UFOs, but because he was a bearded journalist hanging out with troublemakers like Paul Krassner. It was the ’60s, after all!

Lol @ bearded journalist hanging out with troublemakers! There were some extremely Keelian things in Marvel Comics as written and drawn by Lee and Kirby at this exact time and I have wondered many times how influenced they were by John Keel, Kirby especially. They had characters living in Keel’s exact area of Greenwich Village for example! Including aliens hiding amongst humans, etc.etc.
Was it in the air at the time?
