Special Cases – The Long Island File (37): Are You a Hoax or Are You Real?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:55 pm

where can i buy prednisone We’re still in 1967. On July 19, John wrote another letter to the supposed aliens or androids, Apol and Agar, after they ignored his request for a demonstration. He didn’t mail it. It’s a remarkable letter, in which he attempts to get an answer from entities who probably didn’t exist. As he says, “All my life I have sought truth and I have followed strange paths, meandering through the unknown.” None was as strange as this, in which he’s forced to ask if his correspondents are a hoax. One clue to this mess may lie in his description of Jaye Paro as distressed and anguished; this episode, whatever is was, was apparently difficult for her. Unless, of course, she was acting.

The “important men” killed in airplane crashes were Castelo Branco, the former president of Brazil, and John T. McNaughton, incoming Secretary of the Navy (John saved the clippings).

  1. I wonder if John’s reference to them as ‘invaders’ is a window into how he was starting to feel, both in his own quest and about Paro’s supposed claims. At that time, ‘The Invaders’ was a show that had debuted as a mid-season replacement for ABC about a lone man who witnessed a UFO and had discovered that aliens had infiltrated the U.S., but could get nobody to believe him. The show had been renewed for the fall of 1967.

  2. Oh, and JP honestly is my name–it’s not any riff on Paro.

  3. Has John ever mentioned Meade Layne as a source for his theory on ultra terrestrials? Meade’s idea of etherians seem to have inspired John in his theories on extra dimensional beings but I haven’t once seen John mention the man’s name in any of his work.

  4. I love John Keel and I believe that he was a true luminary but, John, I think that you may have been talking to your own people.

  5. I’m sure John read Meade Layne, since he read everything he could find on UFOs. I don’t know if he considered him an influence. He does have an entry for “etheric ships” in his unfinished UFO dictionary.

  6. Yes, John was starting to go down the rabbit hole back then. Fortunately, he was able to pull himself out later. He came to the conclusion that UFOs were not good for your sanity!

  9. I hold to the view that Apol and Agar were Keel’s shadow selves, a mirror, the voice of his own subconscious, and of a deeper, collective unconscious even. The paranormal aspects are there, because the paranormal is fundamental to ufology, to the deeper recesses of the mind and the latter’s interaction with the world at large. The foreknowledge of the plane crashes are real, and yet there is no need to bring in an outside all-knowing ET or nefarious govt agency here; foreknowledge is part and parcel of the paranormal. Was it Keel’s own foreknowledge, relayed back to him the only way his conscious mind could take it in? Namely via external agents that are not? We see with the names Apol and Agar, the usual mythical or quasi-mythical and bizarro names associated with ufology and contactees, because it is all being drawn from the wiser, deeper collective unconscious and its Trickster associations. Apol could be seen as short for Apollo or a pole. As in magnetic pole or polar. Interpret that more figuratively. Perhaps other meanings. One meaning of agar is a protein rich medium (such as a block of seaweed) used as a culture in the microbiology lab, to cultivate bacteria and similar. Interpret that more figuratively. A culture rich medium…

Keel did not understand, or always understand rather, that he was having a conversation with some hidden part of his mind, and the hidden or shadow side of humanity – since none of us is an island – ‘exteriorized’ so to speak, filtered through the paranoia and zeitgeist of the times (1967). Hence Keel’s paranoia and that of other sincere contactees. The Trickster aspect is fundamental here, and Keel knew it. But he did not know just how in this exact respect, he himself was a victim of the Trickster. As are we all. Keel didn’t see how it operated in his own life, because one never does, when the Trickster comes knocking at one’s own door. One can see with others, but not oneself. Because one never has a bird’s eye view there. The Trickster always has the last laugh.

  10. As for Meade Layne and the BSRF, they get a nod from Keel in The Eighth Tower, as I recall.

  11. Apol sounds like apple to me. Take a bite. The trickster or Joker always has the last laugh, but tries to show you what is or is not, self evident. Multi dimensional beings might be confusing to us, always. The United States are the ones with the house of the double dragon; who are trying to control the world and save their foolish central bank. Do what thy will. Endless wars are a stupid way to support the dollar. You think you can create endless wars against innocent people to make endless money? Time will tell. Think you in heaven, but this tis hell. Take a bite of the Apol. Thanks in Heaven, I hear you all. Keep sending.

  13. I have to admit, the name Agar always makes me think of an actor named John Agar, who starred in numerous science fiction B-movies, some involving aliens and flying saucers. If Agar the alien did come from Paro’s mind, maybe that’s where his name came from.

  14. i don’t think the plane disasters were foreknowledge as much as coincidence. Doug, when did john break with Paro? when was the last communication between them?

    Comment by patty g — May 5, 2017 @ 6:42 pm

  15. John’s Long Island File goes through April 1968. Paro is in there throughout. I don’t know if they were in contact after that; he doesn’t mention any break.

  16. I don’t comment on every post, but I really appreciate them. John Keel is my favorite writer of all time. This one is confirmation that he sincerely believed the things he wrote about were actually real. Thanks much.

  17. Yes, John has been accused of making things up. I hope these posts show that he didn’t. He can be criticized for being too credulous, or for sensationalizing some of the material, but he did genuinely think he was covering an important story.
