A Letter to Coral and Jim Lorenzen, August 8, 1966

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:55 pm

Kuala Tungkal John writes a long letter, mostly directed to Coral, with a lot of career advice. He advises her not to attack Frank Edwards and his recent UFO book, as she had promised to do. He suggests she write for more lucrative magazines, like the Saturday Evening Post, and reports that he recommended her to Gold Medal books. Her 1962 book The Great Flying Saucer Hoax was not reprinted by Gold Medal, but by Signet, as Flying Saucers: The Startling Evidence of the Invasion from Outer Space. He also has much to say about his own financial woes and his deteriorating relationship with Playboy.

  1. Thanks again Doug for posting these last few entries. John was up to his hips in the UFO scene and trying to make a living at the same time. The Playboy thing hasn’t quite fallen through yet. I think I can see where he developed a certain “crustiness” with all this business. Have a great new year and keep em coming!

  2. Hi Doug,

The Signet book came out in October. Given this was August, it would have been in the works awhile. It seems she hadn’t told John it was going to be reprinted by Signet.

  4. John had trouble making a living after he quit his TV work. To make things even more difficult, he had a complicated love life too!
