JOHN KEEL NOT AN AUTHORITY ON ANYTHING

Special File – Volume Three (1): All Hell Broke Loose

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:07 pm

San Roque John’s record continues, starting with October 10, 1967. The supposed “denouement” was nothing of the kind; he continues to get strange stories from Jaye Paro and Helen Oglemyer, including reports of a dazed Keel doppelgänger. John also notes that he gave a lecture, visited Ivan Sanderson, and appeared on Long John Nebel’s late-night radio show. Princess Moon Owl shows up again, and Jaye Paro finds Joseph Henslik, who is apparently also known as Joseph Baisle. The file begins with Jaye’s sketch of Agar, which I posted a while ago.

I just learned that John Keel’s brother Raymond died earlier this month. Patrick Huyghe sent me a link to the obituary, and Loren Coleman also posted an obituary of his own. Rest in peace, Raymond.

  1. So Jaye discovered Henslik/Baisle was a pathological liar. Takes one to know one?

  2. Off-topic, but whenever I hear the words ‘pathological liar,’ I think of the Jon Lovitz character on Saturday Night Live years ago. ‘So, yeah, I got abducted by a UFO, that’s the ticket.’

  3. I’m not convinced she actually found him. It’s best to be suspicious of her stories.

  6. What’s the revealed wisdom on the extent Barker and Moseley were responsible for John’s weird 1967? I have heard all of it was, but that would imply an awful expenditure of time and money!

  7. I think they played a part, but can’t be blamed for all of it.

  8. If Jaye knows of Henslik, either JAK told her (and I know he was pretty scrupulous about not giving out info like that) or perhaps she heard about him from somebody such as Moseley, which would have meant she was in cahoots with Moseley. It’s interesting she would know Henslik’s name.

  9. I don’t know if Henslik kept his story secret. Moseley might even have mentioned him on Long John Nebel’s show, which I assume Jaye listened to.

  10. Hi Doug. I was sorry to hear of Raymond’s passing, and hope his later years treated him more kindly than they did John. All best.

  11. Doug, good point about the Long John Nebel show. I’m sure that was Jaye’s career goal, as people would say nowadays. And also, there are now no problems with the site that I can see after that minor glitch last week. As William Grabowski said, it’s sad that Raymond died. My condolences to his family. I’ve often wondered what John’s family thought of his research and writings.

Sorry that I am rambling, but I read on another site that since the death of the Lorenzens in the 1980s, nobody has done anything with the APRO files, and they basically lay dormant. Which again is why I thank you for taking the time all these years to put JAK’s files out there. It’s a terrific historical record.

  12. Thanks! I don’t know how many people are interested in John’s raw notes, but here they are for those who are…

John said that Jaye didn’t read much, but I assume she picked up UFO lore from Nebel’s show. It was a popular topic and a popular show, and she hosted a similar show herself. John didn’t talk much about his family, and never mentioned his siblings by name. He did complain that his mother thought he was a hobo, and that she gave records of his radio appearances to kids to play frisbee with. I think he was probably exaggerating.
