Special Report: UFO Contact

buy stromectol scabies online In this “special report” from 1967, John describes the experiences of Reverend Anthony De Polo. De Polo’s story later appeared in a number of books (Jacques Vallee’s Passport to Magonia, for example), but usually not with all of these details: telephone beeping, a numbers station coming through the television, the sound of a crying baby. Are crying babies a common auditory hallucination? There are many Crybaby Bridges around the US; I visited one once in Oklahoma (but heard nothing). Another odd note: why was B. F. Goodrich interested in UFOs?

PS: Richard Toronto reminded me that in “Anomaly” 8,  John mentioned that a slamming car door and a crying baby are two of the most common auditory hallucinations.

  1. I have never heard of Crybaby bridges before but it would be cool to check one out. Keel seemed to be really taking himself to the story, letting what he had heard and seen inform his opinion and beliefs. This is what sets him apart from so many others in the field.

  5. Another of the more mystifying reports in the UFO/Paranormal literature. This one allegedly occurred not 60 miles from Solon, Ohio, where 9-year-old me was sleeping. Frankly, as weird and interesting as the De Polo case sounds, it strikes me as a vivid example of a hypnopompic (or hypnogogic) state-—as does the case farther south, where the elderly man out for a 4:00 A.M. stroll ran across the anomalous “iron shed.” I admit that the peripheral stuff (telephone tampering, etc.) adds a layer of uncertainty. But, as ever, hats off to Keel for making genuine efforts to investigate.

  6. Another interesting piece of reportage. I specifically like the part that mentions a “trace of a belt.” My imagination just keeps going back to that belt and what it must’ve looked like to De Polo.

  7. “Traced his family line back to biblical times”

Yeah, right. You can only do reliable genealogy back to the 1500’s or so, if you’re lucky.
