A Letter from Mary Hyre, November 1, 1967

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:08 pm

Sokolov Mary Hyre’s next letter is from November 1, 1967. There are more sightings of UFOs, lights, and Mothman. And she gets a call from a UFO investigator in New Jersey; she’s a bit wary of him.

  2. We’ll have to see if he turns up in later letters. She mentions Dan in other letters, but I’m afraid I don’t know who he is.

  3. I just wanted to take a second and thank you for your excellent work on this website. I live in Southern W.Va and this has always been fascinating to me. John is a true legend in my eyes. I appreciate his hard work and the suffering in which he endured while simply trying to find the truth to all of this. I love John’s work and I have read his work many times, over and over. Since I live where I do, the Mothman/W.Va sightings etc. are a huge interest to me. John is truly missed and I regret that I never had a chance to meet him. I am thankful for your hard work on the website and all of these great documents you continue to post, documents which came directly from the heart of his research/investigation into all of this strange and bizarre phenomenon. These letters and documents are pure gold, it just does not get any better then this. It’s one thing to hear reports, claims, etc. and then to actually be able to view these letters and documents. Absolutely pure gold, and I thank you again for doing this for us. Thank you, very very much!!!

  4. You’re welcome! I’m glad people are reading this… Mary Hyre is a crucial part of the story, I think. John and Gray Barker are remembered, because they wrote books about Point Pleasant, but she was reporting on events as they happened. John certainly valued her reports.

  5. Very true words for sure. This is a very big deal for me. Living where I do it’s almost a bit more personal for me then many others. Just the knowledge that it happened right HERE, all of those bizarre eerie events.. Wow. I can not thank you enough again for all of this. It’s nice to have the books that John wrote and of course other books on the case but being able to see documents and such, it’s absolutely amazing. Yes, Mary is a very crucial part to the story. Those letters are absolutely mind blowing, I mean to actually read words that she wrote to John about what was going on. Letters actually FROM that time period. Just like you said. I have always been interested in the case and have been a fan of John’s books and work for years but I am still fairly new to the site and still have tons to browse through. I’m not sure if this is a site John started and you are carrying it on in his memory or if this is something you have done all on your own but either way you have my applause and respect. I hope to visit Point Pleasant someday, that would be so surreal for me. And as a young aspiring writer, basically with the exact same dream as John had as a young man, I hope to one day be educated in all of this enough to write about it myself, especially with my location it’s like the perfect thing for me. I’d like to see a really nice biography written on John, that would be nice. I’d like to be educated about the case and John’s life enough to be able to attempt it myself but I have to much respect for John and his memory to try and get into a project like that this early on. Who knows, maybe down the road somewhere the stars will line up. I’m certainly not new to the case by any means but being 23 years old i’m definitely not as educated as many who have studied this and been fascinated by this for years and years. I’d also like to thank you for posting that article John wrote about writing! I find that very inspiring. Very nice piece, thanks again for all of this!!!

  6. Well, I hope you enjoy looking through the site. John didn’t start the site; I was a friend of his for many years, and started it in his memory after he died.

  7. Thank you and I sure will! That is nice of you, a wonderful thing you are doing in his memory! I think John would have been thrilled to know a young man like myself has gotten so much enjoyment & knowledge out of his hard work. Same to you as well!! One thing John has taught me, if I want to become some type of successful writer in my life, I have to learn how to Eat Rejection Slips! Lol!

  8. I’m fairly sure that “Dan,” referred to by Mary, is NYC filmmaker Dan Drasin. As always, superb material Doug!

  9. Dan Drasin! Of course. Obviously, I need to read Mothman again…
