Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:44 pm

Curuzú Cuatiá John Keel’s notes for the fourth meeting of the New York Fortean Society (March 26, 1988) are on four index cards.  He introduces his film “Egypt — 1954,” preceded by a Bugs Bunny cartoon; gives some updates on members and gets in a dig at James Randi; and introduces Mark Chorvinsky.

  1. “randi is in china after hoax that backfired” any idea what that is about?
also what is it about stage illusionists that attracts them to REAL magic, like ufos and other paranormal things?

  2. I think that’s the Carlos hoax. In 1988, James Randi coached a friend of his, Jose Alvarez, to channel fake communications from a spirit named Carlos, before large crowds in Australia. Many people were incensed, for various reasons. It’s funny: some stage magicians are quite attracted to the paranormal; others are bitterly hostile to it. I can’t begin to speculate on the motives of magicians; I’ve known several, and they’re an odd bunch…

  3. I didn’t know his second name was Alva, which is very siamlir to the Spanish word Alba, from the Latin word Albus and that can mean “the light of dawn”.Obviously, there’s a strong link between the word Albus and the term Elves, which in its most basic definition means “The shining ones”.Now, Mr Keel has taken his place among the shining ones. Godspeed.

  4. Actually, his given name was Alva John Kiehle. He did have his shining moments, as well as his elfin ones.
